High school FFA students fill up elementary students cups with water and seeds

To conclude National FFA Week (February 18-25, 2023), our Van High School FFA officers paid a visit to our 2nd graders at Van Intermediate to teach them all about FFA!

Students rotated through four different stations:

Students learned what plants needed to grow and created their own mini greenhouses in which they planted a corn, bean, and wildflower seed. Students will be able to take their greenhouse home and watch as plants grow!

Students learned how agriculture affects all parts of life. Specifically they looked at corn - a crop grown in all 50 states. They were able to see edible and non-edible items that have corn in them. Then they used corn starch to create oobleck (slime) to take home!

Students were taught about various parts of the poultry industry then played an egg-toss game that related to the content!

After talking about parts of the animals and how to show animals, students were able to see a live heifer and pig!

Students can begin showing animals in the 3rd grade, so hopefully our current Van FFA officers sparked some interest in our FUTURE Van FFA officers! It was a great day of hands-on learning in Vandal Land!
