Teacher Incentive Allotment
The Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) is a program created by the Texas Legislature as part of House Bill 3 to recognize effective teachers on three different levels: Recognized, Exemplary, and Master. The TIA is not a merit-pay approach to compensation, and it will not replace or affect Van ISD's current pay structure. Teachers who earn a distinction based on the local designation system will receive payment through an additional stipend that is separate from the current Van ISD pay structure.
Local Designation System
The Van ISD TIA Stakeholder Committee, which includes teachers, principals, and district administration, has been created to help in the development of the local designation system for our district. The approval process includes the submission of a system application to the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and a data validation process through Texas Tech University following that. The development of a local designation system requires significant planning, robust stakeholder engagement, adequate time to prepare all necessary materials for rollout, and a strong communication plan prior to the first implementation year.
Upon approval of our local designation system, Van ISD may recommend our outstanding teachers for designation. There is no limit to the amount of teachers that a district may designate, so long as their teachers meet the district's designation criteria and the eligibility requirements set by TEA.
